Snoop Dogg in the Hizzy

Oh that Pinterest.  It's done it again.  Once I saw this, I KNEW I had to recreate it.  I absolutely love the irony.  It's like a mixture of old-lady-sitting-in-a-recliner-cross-stitching meets Snoop Dogg.  For all my doggs that don't know much about Snoop D-O-double-G or understand his flow, it says "Bless This Hizzy, Fo Shizzle."  (Both of my co-workers thought it said "To Shizzle."  In other words, it means "Bless This House, For Sure."  And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is your Snoop 101 lesson for the day.

Since I didn't have a pattern to go by, only this picture, I had to make my own.  I bought graph paper and taped 6 sheets together.  For those of you that don't cross-stitch, it's all about finding your center.  I found the center on the pic above and the center on my graph paper and started drawing out my pattern.  Each color is a different symbol so that I wouldn't get them mixed up.  Then I literally counted each line on the computer screen and that's how I drew my pattern out.  It's a wonder that my eyes are not cross-eyed or I didn't end up with a lazy eye.  *Inside joke....hehe*

It only took about 2 hours to get it all drawn out then I couldn't wait to start cross stitching.  I already had all of the colors so I just had to buy the fabric.  It's hard to tell in this pic, but there are silver strands that run through the entire fabric and I loved how it looked blingy.....fo shizzle!

It looks like there's a gray hair right above the lower left heart and even though I (sadly) have found a few gray hairs since turning the big 3-0, it's actually just the reflection from my bracelets.

Here's a close-up that shows the blingy silver threads a little better.  It still doesn't show up as well as it does in person.

So there ya have it.  My little project that I couldn't be more proud of.  A house isn't a hizzy without some "Capital S, oh yes I'm fresh, N double-O P, D O double-G Y, D O double-G, ya see!  If you have no idea what that language is I speak of, check out the video.  I can't get over how young Snoop looks.  But my favorite part is the little toddler getting down and checkin' out the ladies.  Warning: Explicit lyrics.

Don't say I didn't warn ya.

A Project Re-do for Granny

Last Saturday made 7 years since we said goodbye to my Granny.  So I thought Saturday was the perfect time to tackle a little project that I've been meaning to get around to for...oh....about a year and half.   I made this shadow box about 6 years ago using her picture, the card from the funeral home, her obituary that I typed out, and petals from a flower from her casket.

Well when I moved, tragedy struck.
The glass broke.
And some of the dried petals did not make it out alive.

I wanted to spruce it up a little bit anyway.  Luckily, I still had some of the same background fabric leftover. (I couln't use the same fabric because I had to cut holes in the fabric to take the petals off since I hot glued them onto the fabric.)  I also had this frame laying around.  Are you keeping track?  This little mini make-over cost me zero dolla!  Holla!

I salvaged 2 of the petals for symbolic reasons. One of the petals is for my grandfather who has been gone since my mom was only 19 years old and the other one is for my uncle who passed away just 3 months before my Granny. I'm sure that the three of them have partied it up behind those pearly gates for the last 7 years!

Sorry about the weird reflection in the glass....I had the TV on......of course!

I haven't hung it up yet because I'm trying to gather some frames to make a gallery wall.  So far, I have this, Tippy's masterpiece, and something else that I haven't shown you yet.  I don't have it framed yet but I'll show you when I do.  I'm pretty excited about it.  :)

Tippy Tuesday

What about that great weather we had over the weekend?  Tippy knows a pretty day when she sees one!  I opened the back door and let her go through her doggy door as she pleased.  She was thrilled to be laying in the grass.......in the sun......in the middle of January!

Tippy Tuesday

Last week we had a house guest.  Long story short, a chihuahua was found in the parking lot of a (are you ready for this?) MEXICAN restaurant and I fostered him for the night until we figured out what to do with him.  Here's Tippy scoping him out from above.

Someone from the Animal League for Life took him in, she was gonna fix him up and put him up for adoption.  Thanks to the wonderful world of Facebook, his owner was found and he was reunited with his family.  Apparently, the family has had him since birth, 17 YRS AGO.  Yes, the dog is 17 yrs old and his name is Ren.  I'm glad Ren is back with his family.  :)

Tippy's first masterpiece(s)

Tippy has started to take after her mama and tap into a little bit o' crafting.  Since she didn't have much money to buy Christmas presents this year, she thought she would make her own presents.  So she painted a picture for her Mimi and Paps and another one for me.  Isn't she so sweet!  Luckily, we already had some paint so she picked out colors that match our decor and dipped her little paw in the paint and went to town.  By the way, she's a lefty just like her mama.

And here they are all matted and framed!  One thing I love about it is if you look closely, you'll find Tippy hairs dried up in the paint.

Funny story.....I have an aunt that is really artsy.  She has original art covering her walls and she knows good art. She came by my parents' house last week and when she was leaving she was admiring a picture of my brother and his fiance on the table right by the front door.  Then she noticed the picture that Tippy made and she said "Oh, I really like that!  Where did you get that?"

So I just might have a little Picasso on my hands! :)

Christmas card display

What do you get when you have a big blank wall and Christmas cards piling up?......THIS!

I've seen so many Christmas card displays on Pinterest and I wish I woulda done something a little more creative but I wanted to work with what I already had which was ribbon.  All I did was use frog tape to tape down the ribbon so it wouldn't hurt the paint and tied a bow at the top.  I tried using frog tape to secure the ribbon but...fail.  So I used a clear bulletin board pin and you can't even see it.

I've added a lot more since these pics were taken but you get the idea.

Question:  Do other people display their own Christmas cards????  I paid money for it so why not display it.

Oh yeah.......HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
