Snowman ornament (even though Christmas is over)

Nothin like the holidays (and Pinterest) to bring out the crafting in ya!  I came across this on Pinterest and decided these would make some cute and easy gifts.

Via

These were made with clear glass ornaments, fake snow, and a baby sock and ribbon for the hat.  I had to improvise a bit because I couldn't find any baby socks that would work.  I'll show you step by step how I made my little snowman.

I started off with a clear glass ornament.

Then I filled it with fake snow that I already had on hand.....and geez, it can be messy!

I found some sparkly silver string at the Hob Lob and tied it leaving the ugly knot hidden at the bottom.  I also hot-glued the knot in place so it wouldn't slide to the top.   Tippy was supervising to make sure I didn't mess up.

So when I couldn't find the baby sock, I went to Hobby Lobby and while I was in the gift bag section, I found these small drawstring pouches.  Perfect!

All I did was cut the drawstring off and cut a couple of inches off of the end that was sewn together.

Then I slid the "hat" in place and hot-glued it to the ornament all around.

I tied a ribbon and he was starting to come to life, well as much as you can come to life without a face.

Ahhh, much better!  A couple of paint pens later and he's Frosty's new little cousin!
I only planned on making two of these but I may or may not have dropped one and had to make a third one.  That was NOT a fun mess to clean up with all that fake snow.  Ughh.

Whippin' out a wreath

Well, I'm back with something crafty.  I'll go ahead and tell ya, it ain't nothing special but I figured that since I haven't done anything crafty in....oh.....MONTHS, I should share anyway.

I switched my colors for Christmas from red, lime green and white to peacock colors.  My wreath before (which I forgot to take a pic of...sorry!) was done in my colors from last year so I ripped everything off and tossed a few things on there that went with my new color scheme.  I made the bow and added a stem in the middle that has bells so every time my door opens and closes, there's a little jingle-lingle-ling.  The only other things I added were the poinsettias, small ornaments and a few floral stems but you can barely even see them because they're lime green.

I should've taken some close up pics of the details but I completely forgot about it.  I would take some more pics but it took 2 weeks to take this one because it's been dark when I leave in the morning and is dark when I get home.....stupid time change.  I snapped this real quick when I came home for lunch one day....when it wasn't raining....and when I wasn't trying to squeeze in so much DVR time during my lunch....and when Tippy wasn't craving my attention.

Again, nothing special.  I feel like I did such a dishonor to my front door with all the really cool wreath ideas on Pinterest but I haven't had much time and I literally threw it together in a few minutes so that I would have SUMTHIN on my little wreath hanger.  Hey, maybe after all of the crazy Christmas stuff is over, I'll do a winter wreath. *fingers crossed*

**I've actually done some ornament making that I shall share very soon.  And I'm thinking of another project to display my Christmas cards.  Dang, I'm on a roll!  You can call me.......The Crafty Bachelorette!!

Tippy Tuesday

Guess who got Christmas pictures made?!  And guess who is on her way to becoming a supermodel?!  Seriously, this was Tippy's 5th or 6th photoshoot and there wasn't a single picture where she had her ears pinned back and was shaking in fear.  I think she's starting to learn the expectations of being my child and learning to just deal with it.

So we took a few different poses and I'm only going to show you a couple this week.  Neither of these did not make it on the Christmas card but they're definitely worth sharing.  Don't worry, you will see the final Christmas card next week :)

TIppy Tuesday

I've been staying at my sister's house the last few days for our annual shopping trip and when I stay here, I sleep in the guest bedroom which houses "the big ole comfy bed."  You literally melt every time you lay in it and it's simply uh-mazing.  And Tippy seems to think so too.  When she is not locked up in her cage, this is where you will find her, day or night.

She doesn't care about spending time with us, she would rather soak up every bit of time she can in the big ole comfy bed.....I kinda don't blame her.

Tippy Tuesday

First off, I want to apologize that these pics are so dark but I had to capture this and all I had was my cell phone and poor lighting.

Anytime I have food and plop myself on the couch in front of the TV, I usually have this staring at me with her eye on the prize.....my food.

But then with each bite I take, her head lowers more and more. (Still not taking her eyes off of my food)

By the time I'm down to my last bite, her head is preeeeeetty much level with her paws.

If I don't end up giving her that last bite, she looks at me like I'm the biggest b**** in the world.....then she gets under the covers in the bed and pouts.  Such a hard life she has.

Tippy Tuesday

I love it when people I know (in this case a co-worker) thinks about Tippy as they gather stuff to take to Goodwill.

In my best fashion show announcer voice:  The lovely awkward Tippy is modeling a back pack from the Dora the Explorer collection in different shades of purple and includes a (very happy) map in case she gets lost.  She can't read so it might not do her any good.  Go ahead Tippy.....Work it!  Work it!

Sorry I guess that's all she's got.

Thanks again, Susan!

Tippy Tuesday

Tippy's new furry friend Alex babysat her for a few hours while I went to a cheerleading competition on Saturday.  Tippy was watching for me out the window while Alex was doing his job and watching Tippy.  Good job Alex!  Thanks for watching Tippy for me :)

It took several months but Alex is no longer freaked out by Tippy.
All he wants to do with her now is play play play!!

Paper Kutz: October 2011

I'm back to show you a couple of more cards that I made in my Paper Kutz class.  If you missed my last post showing all of the cards I've made up to this point, click here.  As I mentioned before, my class meets once a month so I'll be posting a Paper Kutz update every month.  If you noticed that I didn't post anything last month, well...that's because someone got a coupon in the mail and felt compelled to go to the mall and use it.

So here's the first card we did.

This is what we started out with
And we turned it into this!  Spooky, huh?
And the inside
The other one we did wasn't exactly a card but it was just as fun!  We had our choice to make either place cards in pine cones or napkin rings.  Since I'm not planning on having a dinner party anytime soon, I thought I would go with the napkin rings.  This was so stinkin' easy, it was ridiculous.

The front

And the back
All I did was take 2 colors of paper (these were already cut into smaller pieces), cut a scalloped edge around them, placed one on top of the other and stamped the one on the top.  Then I took a hole punch and punched a hole on each side and tied some yarn around the back.  Easy peasy!!

Tippy Tuesday

Flashback to 2010:  Halloween is just around the corner and I thought I would dust off Tippy's Howl-o-ween picture from last year.  As you can see, she made a GREAT bat.  Bat ears....check!  Bat teeth....check!  My little cousins don't call her vampire dog for nothin'!

I'm taking Tippy today for this year's Howl-o-ween photo shoot.  She's beginning to be a pro at this (if she could ever take a pic without her tail tucked between her legs).  You'll have to wait until next week to see what she's going to be for Howl-o-ween this year but I promise that she looks miserable cute in her costume.

I'm getting back in the game!.....maybe.

Well it's about time I did something crafty up in herrr!  A couple of weeks ago, I took one of our very own classes, Festive Fall Wreath.  That's the cool part of my job.  I get to meet with some with super talented and crafty people and coordinate Arts & Crafts classes for the community.  Being able to take these classes myself is just an added bonus!  Sorry I didn't take pics of the play by play, but basically I started out inserting a few focal point flowers and then filled in the rest with smaller flowers and other fillers.  I'm actually not 100% happy with it.  I wish I would've only added flowers on the bottom half so that part of the grapevine wreath would be visible.  Oh well, shoulda, coulda, woulda.  I guess I could always take some of it off.....maybe next year.

But that's not all folks!   My friends, Stephen and Shawn, are in a band called The Mountain Ears.  They just recently began playing in small cafes and I've pretty much named myself their #1 fan.  After their first gig, we all hung out and they gave us a little after-show concert.  The next day, I found the piece of paper where Stephen wrote down their set list for their gig that night.  I was about to give it back to him but then thought, "Nah, I might need to hold onto this."  Stephen's 30th birthday was a few weeks away and I thought I could do something kinda cool with it.  Fast forward a couple of weeks later and I got to working on my little project.  I found this really cool frame where the glass was flush with the frame.  Then I took some scrapbook paper that looked like it had words scribbled on it even though you couldn't read what it actually said.  Luckily, I found a really good picture on Shawn's Facebook of the two of them from their first gig and I secretly sent Shawn a message asking him to email that picture to me but to keep in on the hush-hush or he would die.  Not really, but this story needs some drama.  Anywho,  I didn't even tell Shawn what I was doing but told him it was for Stephen's birthday present which is why he had to keep his mouth shut or I would staple his singing lips shut with my crafty staple gun.  Yeah, not really....but just go with it.  You can't really read it but I printed off a description that said:

The Mountain Ears
Kentucky Fudge Company
August 27, 2011

If you couldn't figure it out, the Kentucky Fudge Company was the location of their first gig.  And let me tell ya, they have some of the best peanut butter pie!  As my Granny would say, "It's the best that ever was!"  Actually, ev-er-y-thing there is yummy in my tummy.....or your tummy.....or anybody's tummy.

Enough about pie, let's get back to the show.  So then I added a border around it, cut down the picture and set list so that it would fit in the frame and there ya go!

I love how the set list got all wrinkly and worn out looking.  I guess that's what happens when I hold onto something for 3 weeks :)  Do you wanna know what he thought about it?  Well, let's just say that I thought it would be cool hanging upstairs in his music room but instead, he has it displayed out in the open in his living room on top of the piano.  Sooooo....I think he liked it.

Tippy Tuesday

Somebody had a BIRTHDAY over the weekend!!!  Yes, my first born turned 3 over the weekend.  We had a little party and made tacos, opened presents and had birthday cake.  Tippy wants to thank everyone for all of the well wishes.

Paper Kutz

I probably should've blogged about this a long time...but....well, I just haven't gotten around to it.  Do you remember here where I went to my first home maker class?  Well the group is called Paper Kutz and I paid my annual $8 fee and joined the group.....back in December.  See, I told you this was long over due.  Basically, the group meets once a month and each month, you have two demonstrators, one person who brings snacks, and another that brings drinks and you sit around and make cards and socialize.  Pretty fun.  So I thought I would go back and show you all of the cards that I have made so far.  Oh, and not all of these are cards....they can be pretty much anything that's made out of paper.

I thought this was really cute because you can slide the card in and out of its little holder.

Made from real dried flowers.

 So cute and sooooo easy!

This demonstrator made ALL of those little flowers out of string....for 25 people!!

Spring Time!

A bracelet....all made out of paper.  This actually drove me a bit batty!

I really liked this one :)

This was one of my favs!

Our little "Kell-ki" demonstrated this one for us!

Some people got a little frustrated with this one but I love it because we got to draw and paint!

A little ornament.  I really need to find that nail polish I'm wearing because I loved it so.

A box....in case you couldn't figure it out.

This was pretty cool....a fry bag

And this one really got me ready for fall!!

So there ya have it!  Everything I have made in Paper Kutz so far.  I hope I didn't leave anything out.  In case you're saying, "But Shari, I want mooore!"  Well you're in luck!  We will be meeting again next Thursday and I will be back to show you what I come home with.  I'm going to try to post every month to show you what I made.  I mean, I AM the CRAFTY Bachelorette, right??

* Sorry, if the photos seemed a little wonky.  Blogger has added some new features and I'm testing them out.

** I REALLY need to get a better camera, like an SLR camera.  These yellow pics are driving me ba-na-nas.  Speaking of ba-na-nas, did anyone catch the season premiere of Rachel Zoe the other night?  So good.  Anyway, if anyone knows how to fix my yellow pics, let me know!
