Tippy & Raven: NOT BFFs!

Back in the day when I first got Tippy, Kristen and I were so excited because we thought for sure that our little black dogs would be just as good of friends as we are. As we learned the personalities of each of our dogs, we thought "yeah....they're gonna hate each other." So we have kept them apart for over a year. Her dog actually lives in Harlan County but came to stay the night with us and....well.....this is what happened when they met for the first time......

It got a little better at the end of the night, but not much. And before you even say anything, yes, that was a Christmas rug you saw in the kitchen. It is January 29th and we have yet to take down any of our Christmas decorations, not even our tree. We're thinking about taking off the ornaments and decorating it for Valentine's Day :)

I'm finally starting to live up to the name of blog. I currently have a few sewing projects in the works and I PROMISE you will be some of the first to see. How dare I deprive my blog readers of my crafting!

I hope everyone is prepared for this "BIG SNOW" we're supposed to get! I'm supposed to judge in Shelbyville tomorrow and Georgetown on Sunday but I'm still waiting to see if it's gonna be delayed. For a list of competition dates and results, go to http://www.kapos.org/

Well there goes the diet!

I'm not going to get all Bridget Jones on ya but 3 weeks of successful dieting has gone down the crap-shoot in just one weekend! The fam gathered in Louisville this weekend to celebrate my sister's birthday and I'm not sure if I put one healthy bite in my mouth all weekend. We started the weekend at my favorite!
Can you tell which of these drinks was the DD's (aka Mom)? The other 6 drinks were for Dad, Shauna and myself.....and this was our 1st round. :) Gotta love 2 for 1 margaritas!!

An appetizer MUST! Guacamole and pico de gallo mixed together with a dash of lime and pepper....mmm!!

Saturday rolled around and my brother made it in town so we went to eat at Z's Oyster Bar. It was soooo good and the portions were surprisingly big. Usually when you go to nice restaurants, the portions are snack-size but you leave feeling good about yourself because you're not leaving there with your pants unbuttoned. We started off with calamari and 2 orders of Oyster Rockefeller. I took a couple of pics but they're kinda dark. I figured if I raised the flash in a dim, quiet restaurant, my sister would yell at me.

Oyster Rockefeller

I ordered crab cakes and let me just say that I have never had crab cakes with so much crab meat. They were the best crab cakes I've ever had!

Thanks to a (warmer than usual) January night, we went home and built a fire outside in the fire pit. A couple of my sister's friends came to join us and brought stuff to make smores. I'm pretty sure it's illegal for someone to build a fire without smores....at least for someone who has been eating only from the cardboard food group for 3 weeks. I'm not sure why i didn't take any pics of the smores but it's probably a good thing since I'm back on my diet. Posting a pic of the yummy smores I made would only lead to excessive drooling and deprivation.

On Sunday, I headed to Morehead to judge the 16th region KAPOS cheerleading competition. I love this time a year because I get to make a little extra money doing something I LOVE! For those of you that knew me when I was in high school, being a cheerleader was my first love. I was taking a gymnastics class up until the day before I left for college....and got teary-eyed when I threw my last tumbling pass. Yeah, I know, I'm ridiculous. Anywho, if anyone is interested, these are the results from yesterday's competition

Traditional: East Carter

Small: Boyd County

Medium: Ashland Paul Blazer

Large: Greenup County

Small Co-Ed: West Carter

Large Co-Ed: Elliott County

This weekend I'll be judging at Shelby County High School on Saturday and I'll be timing at Scott County High School on Sunday. If you enjoy watching cheerleaders at all, I would suggest coming to the competition at Scott County. This region has the best teams in the state!

While we're on the subject of cheerleading, I have something to complain about. That's what blogs are used for, right? What is up with cheerleaders and they're facial expressions?!?!?!?!?! Who told these girls that it looked good to open your mouth and let your tongue hang out??? It's like they're trying to SCARE the judges into giving them a good score. Well, not this judge! This drives me crazy and I definitely take off points when i see these facial expressions. Cheerleaders are supposed to be pretty and SMILE!!! If you coach a team, please don't let your cheerleaders make these horrible faces. I tried to google examples of pictures but google must think they're too ugly to post because I couldn't find any!

My 1st "Crafty" Blog :)

Yes, I am very well aware that my blog is called The "Crafty" Bachelorette and I have yet to post anything "crafty." The wait is over! No, it's not something that I recently completed....it's actually my very first sewing project that I completed all by myself (well, I had some help from Domestic Ambitions). Last year for Christmas, my sister said she wanted an apron for Christmas. I'm sure that never in her wildest dreams did she imagine that I would MAKE her an apron!

When did my dad get HIS design degree???

So my mom (of all people) was telling me about this dance that happened on Oprah so I HAD to look it up on youtube. It's crazy how this dance filled the entire crowd on Michigan Avenue. The best part is Oprah's expression!

I went home to Paintsville this weekend for the main purpose of seeing what kind of damage my dad had done with the downstairs kitchen renovations. I have been on edge for the past week. I called home last weekend and my parents broke the news to me that dad had started this remodeling project and had already picked out all of the paint and countertops WITHOUT MY APPROVAL! Yes, I know it's their house but I'm the one that graduated with a degree in interior design! Ok, so maybe my current job has absolutely nothing to do with interior design but that's even more reason to use my skills.....simply the mere fact of knowing that his money putting me through college wasn't a complete waste! I picked out everything for the upstairs kitchen and everyone that sees it thinks it's gorgeous! So why wouldn't they want my help with the other kitchen? I was going to take "before pictures" but it was smack dab in the middle of the renovations that you couldn't even tell what it really looked like "before." As for his selections, they weren't half bad! I actually picked out that exact countertop for a co-worker who asked for my help a couple of years ago. As for the paint...it's ok. The color of the cabinets is throwing me off a bit but he's doing a glaze on the cabinets and I think it's going to help tie it all together. We found some really nice tile for the floor that I think will look pretty good with it so hopefully the end product won't be as bad as what I had imagined in my head *fingers crossed*!

Tippy loves cuddling with Scotty (not necessarily the other way around).

When it rains...it pours :(

I wanted to start this whole blog thing to be funny and lighthearted which is why I never thought my second blog would be so sad. But this has been a rough week and that's all that's on my mind right now. It all started exactly one week ago on January 7th. I woke up knowing it was going to be a rough day because five years ago on that day, I lost my Granny. Later on that afternoon at work, our director gathered us all together to tell us that one of our co-workers, Bobby Spurlock, was found dead in his apartment....and one of our other co-workers found him. His funeral was today in Morehead but I couldn't make myself go....but for other reasons. Six years ago, one of my best friends growing up died in a car accident and her funeral was at the exact same funeral as his. I haven't been to that funeral home since and I don't know if I ever will. I still have some unresolved issues that I'm dealing with when it comes to her and I don't think I would have been able to go to that same funeral home. I was afraid that my mind would be somewhere else and I wouldn't want to take that away from Bobby. At the same time, I felt like I needed to go because it still doesn't seem real to me that he's gone. I wouldn't see him very often at work. Sometimes he'd be traveling, outside smoking all the time or just not at work at all so it's not unusual that I haven't seen him in the last week. Going to his funeral would have been the only thing to make it real for me but my mind would have been somewhere else.

THEN this evening, a co-worker called and said another co-worker got into a really bad accident on her way home from work this evening. She got hit head-on. I just got word that her pelvis is out of place (or broken or something) and she broke some ribs. I'm praying for her and wishing her a speedy recovery!

On a lighter note, today is my sister's birthday! I won't say how old she is because she'd probably kill me...but before she'd kill me, she would remind me how people think she is my YOUNGER sister. Errrr!...wrong answer, try again.

Ok, so I guess I need to go pay attention to my dog. She's throwing her toys up in the air then running from them like they're supposed to catch her. Poor thing....she is obviously attention deprived.

"Okay, Dwight, let me explain something to you. I set the rules and you follow them blindly, okay? And if you have a problem with that, then you can talk to our complaint department. It's a trashcan."

Hellooooo Blog World!

Well I did it....I am officially a blogger. We'll see how this thing goes. I'm not sure how dedicated I will be to posting on a regular basis but I will do my best. One of the main reasons I wanted to start a blog was because I got a decent camera for Christmas and I want to learn to be more creative with my photography skills....

Canon Powershot SX120is

So I'll go ahead and fill you in on what to expect from reading this blog: Some fun times with Domestic Ambitions, reviews from the numerous reality tv shows I watch, hilarious moments of my child (Tippy ~ the chihuahua), and if your lucky, some crafty projects made by ME! Even though the title of this blog is the "Crafty" bachelorette, it doesn't mean that I sit at home at my sewing machine non-stop....I have waaaay too many shows on DVR for that. But I want to do projects more than what I do right now so hopefully this blog will movitate me to do it.

Tippy (my chihuahua) and Scotty (my parent's chihuahua)

Tippy was so sleepy, she couldn't even hold her eyes open.

Something else to expect is "The Office Quote of the Day". The Office is one of my favorite primetime TV shows and one of my co-workers got me one of those jazzy calendars where you rip off a page each day and it has a quote from The Office on each day. So everyday I blog through 2010, I will end it with a quote that will hopefully put a smile on your face! :) WARNING: If you don't watch The Office, you probably won't think it's very funny because you just have to know the characters and imagine them saying it!

The Office Quote of the Day:

"I learned a while back that if I don't text 'nine-one-one,' people will not return my calls. Um, but now people always return my calls because they think that something horrible has happened."
