Tippy Tuesday

If you saw my Facebook status on Saturday then you probably know that Tippy got pooped on by a bird...and I stuck my finger in it because I thought a wet petal got stuck to her head.  The funniest part was her walking around and not having a clue that she had bird poop on her head.

Tippy Tuesday

So I dropped Tippy off this afternoon at her Uncle Casey's and Aunt Ashlee's house.  Not long after, I get the following phone call from Ashlee....

Ashlee: Question....how long ago did you drop off Tippy?
Me: About an hour ago.  Why?  What's wrong?
Ashlee:  Well I came home and Tippy was in the driveway.

Apparently she squeezed through a tiny hole under the fence and went on a little adventure.  When she found her, she had mud on her and was super thirsty by the time she got inside.  So in the bathtub, she went!

This was her second bath in 5 days so I'm guessing she was NOT happy!

Tippy Tuesday

It was time for Tippy to get new dog bowls and when I saw this Mexican-inspired dinnerware at Kroger, I knew it was perfect for her.  (Ok, and maybe for me too.)

I never knew that a couple of bowls and a plate would turn my pupils into heart shapes.

My 1st Trimester: Craft Room

Well, I've made it.  I've made it through my first trimester.  Yep, that's right.  I am 3 months into getting my craft room finished.  I only have 6 more months to go and the pressure is on!  As promised, I am giving you an update on how things are going.  So this is how it looks at this very moment with a little side-by-side before and after comparison.

Now you understand why I injured myself every time I walked in here.

I still can't believe I let this room get this way....

If you're wondering where everything went.....well, let's just say you don't wanna see the rest of my house.  Thankfully, a lot of it either went to Goodwill or the trash and the feeling to get rid of all that was uh-mazing!  Once I got everything cleaned out, I cleaned the window, washed down the baseboards and shampooed the carpet.  Now I'm trying to pick out fabric for my window treatments and pick out paint.  I love the fabric in the picture below but it's much more than I wanna pay for fabric.  Unless I can find a coupon, it sadly will not reside in la casa de Shari.

Oh yeah, one other thing I had to do was spackle 16 holes right above my doorway.  You see, I bought a pull up bar (that I only used a handful of times, but that's besides the point) and it required drilling 8 holes in the wall.  So I mounted it and I apparently didn't drill them in the right spots so I had to put 8 more holes in the wall.  Yep, I can be dangerous with a drill.

Oh and guess what....after I shampooed the carpet, Tippy thought she would break it back in and poop right there....and she never has accidents inside unless she's excited.

So there you have it.  The good thing about dragging everything into every other room is it will light a fire up my badonkadonk and get on it so I can get my house back to normal.  I'm not putting anything back in there unless it's pretty and going to its permanent home.

Stay tuned because I will be back at the end of my second trimester on July 9th with another update.  It will be much prettier by then!

Tippy Tuesday

Tippy's favorite seat in the house is always on top of another furry relative.....poor Scotty.  Reason #7438 that it's Tippy's world and we just live in it.

Tippy Tuesday

While I was out of town for work, my parents took Tippy to my sister's house and shortly after I received this picture...

But the text message that came with it was best part.  Let me explain that once I introduced my mom to talk-to-text, she just can't stay away from that little microphone.

Having a hard time figuring that one out?  I did too.  Translation?  "Auntie Shauna giving Tippy some water.  We are here."  The funniest part about that statement is that Tippy really is anti-Shauna. Hahaha!!  Oh, don't worry....the feeling is mutual.

Organize Scrapbook Paper: CHECK!

I have some updates to share with you but I wanted to get this post out of the way first.  Unfortunately, the two posts I'm excited to share with you are not craft room related.  BUT you will be happy to hear that progress has been made and it's possible that I might give birth to this little craft room prematurely.  If you're sitting there wondering what I'm talking about when I say I'm giving birth to a craft room, click here to read that post.  If you remember, my due date is October 9th.  I'll give you an update at the end of my first trimester which is April 9th.  Am I going a little to far with this whole "giving birth" analogy?  I can't help it.  With my first nephew (yes, we just found out it's a boy) baking in my sister-in-law's uterus right now, I have baby on the brain!

So moving on, here's a quick little post about how I organized my scrapbook paper.  I don't have an abundant amount of scrapbook paper, so I didn't need some elaborate paper station to organize everything.

Before I tackled this little project, I stashed my random sheets in with these pads of scrapbook paper.

I also had an IKEA box that I kept more paper in, along with some other supplies...like stickers, stamps, paper cutter and God knows what else.  Horrible, I know.

So as I was strolling the aisles in Hobby Lobby, I came across this.

It's an expandable scrapbook paper file that hold 12 x 12 sheets so I thought it was just what I needed.  I tore out all my sheets that were in those 2 pads of scrapbook paper that I showed you in the first picture, organized all of my paper by color, and put them in the slots from darkest to lightest.  Then I put all of my stickers in the front which you see in the picture below.  You'll notice, there are tabs at the top to label the slots but I haven't decided if I'm going to use them or not because it is already so easy to see what I have.

This turned out to be a great little organizer!  I bought it a few months ago so I can't remember exactly how much it was.  I'm thinking it was in the $14-$16 range, but with the 40% off coupon, it was under 10 bucks.  The good thing about this is you could use this for other things too and not just scrapbook paper.  You could organize larger 8x10 or 5x7 photos or magazines or anything else that needs to be filed in a stylish accordion file.

I've got a busy week coming up so I'm not sure when I'll get around to showing you all the updates that I'm so excited to share.  Let me just say that my Dad was involved in these two updates so you know it's got to be good!  :)

A 40th Birthday Party! (AKA My Sister is Old)

A couple months ago, my sister turned the big 4-0 so I tried to plan a little surprise party for her but it didn't exactly go as planned.  We were wanting to surprise her by having some family come from 3 hours away but thanks to the snow that weekend, it didn't happen.  So it was just our immediate family but she appreciated the thought.

We ate at Jack Fry's the night before so on this night, we went to our favorite Mexican restaurant El Torazo where the staff knows us and it's ok if we get a bit rowdy.  I came up with an excuse to leave early and just meet them there so that I could decorate the table.

I put some birthday gifts on the table, like a tiara with 40 on it, a bottle of wine and a mug I made her.

Let's take a closer look at the mug, shall we?  I drew 40 Sucks on a mug in a sharpie, baked it so that the marker wouldn't come off and added in her favorite cinnamon suckers.

Of course I had to get a video of her walking in.

And here are the VanHoose chicks.

Even though the surprise party didn't turn out as planned, it was still a fun night.  How can it not be when you're at a Mexican restaurant with margaritas and good company?  HAPPY 40th BIRTHDAY, SHAUNA!!  #yourold

In case you forgot what it looked like before.....

You wanna see something real pitiful? This was taken at the vet after her procedure.  :(

So what do you think?  Does she look like a little hillbilly?  Snaggletooth? Or does she look even more like a bat?

Adios April :(

It was a sad, sad day at work a couple weeks ago when a co-worker of mine, who became a really good friend, resigned and took another job in Florida. Yep, she left Kentucky to move down to the sunshine state.  You kinda can't blame her, can you?

I knew I wanted to make something special for her and I kept thinking about this picture of us that was taken almost 2 years ago.  We were working in Louisville and when we saw each other for the first time that morning, we could not believe the coincidence!  We totally did not plan this so we had to take a pic.

Then I had an idea.  The company she is working for in Florida is called the Mosaic Company. I've always loved the look of mosaic tiles and have always wanted to use them in some project.  This was obviously the perfect time to bust them out!

I started out with a plain unfinished wood frame from Hobby Lobby in their wood section.  Then I took black craft paint and painted the back and the sides.  I left the front alone since it would be covered up anyway.

Here's where I got lazy when it came to taking progress pics.  So let me explain what you missed.  All of the tiles laid out perfectly except for the bottom row.  I bought a tile cutter since about a fourth of the tiles were hanging off the bottom.  Well, let's just say that Shari and tile cutters do not get along.  My hands were so sore for 2 days from squeezing the tile cutter so hard.  There was blood, sweat and tiny shards of glass all over my living room floor.  So I gave up and moved on to plan B.  First, I went ahead and grouted the tile then after it was set, I painted the bottom row black.

Then I took another trip to the Hob Lob and found this black furry trim.  Perfect!  And yes, I color coordinated the tile to match our outfits.  Duh.  I was pleased with the way it turned out.  I just have to figure out this tile cutting situation for the future.

And here's one last one of the two of us.  This was taken at her farewell lunch with all of our work peeps at our favorite Mexican restaurant.  I miss this chica like crazy but I'm happy for her and her new opportunity.  The good news is I have a free place to stay when I go to Florida.  :)

I miss you April!!!

Tippy Tuesday

Tippy has never been a fan of car rides but lately she has been freaking out even more.  Like hiding out in the floor of the back seat and even crawling underneath my driver's seat in pure fear.  Am I that bad of a driver?

Don't answer that.

A Valentine from Tippy

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!

XO, Tippy

And yes, I got the dreaded question at the Hobby Lobby fabric cutting counter....So what are you making?  I battled in my head on whether or not I should tell them it was for the backdrop of my dog's Valentine's Day card.  It kinda screams desperate single lady. (All the single ladies, all the single ladies.....Come on, you know you were singing it too.)  Because I love to get a good reaction from people, I decided to fill 'em in.  The fabric lady and the person in line behind me just looked at me and smiled and said "Aww."  But what they were really thinking was "Oh, how sad."  Happy Singles Awareness Day.

Tippy Tuesday

Before I get into this week's Tippy Tuesday, I wanted to let all you Tippy lovers out there know that she will be back on Thursday for a special valentine for you!  So be sure you check back in!

You may remember when I posted this video.  Well ever since then, she has been raising her hand like every day.  It's always when I'm watching TV, on my laptop or any other time when I'm not paying attention to her.  She'll get in her begging position and raise up her little paw like "Hey....hey you.  Look at me."

Refrigerator Photo Magnets

Before I get into organizing projects in my craft room, I need to show you a little Christmas project that I almost forgot to share.  Every year, Tippy gets her Mimi and Paps a little something for Christmas.  I know, I know, that child of mine has such a big heart.  One year she gave them coffee mugs with her picture on it, another year she got them an ornament with her picture, and last year she made this masterpiece using her little paw.  I really do have a true artist.

We were kinda stumped on what to get them this year then Tippy had a great idea of making refrigerator magnets of her and the rest of the family animals.  So I picked out some pics of all of the furry kids and printed wallet sizes at Wal-Mart.  Then I went to Hobby Lobby and found these bevel glass squares and some magnets.

I placed the glass on the pictures and drew around it then cut it out with scissors.

Then I applied a thin layer of Mod Podge to the glass and stuck the photo on it.  I have to admit, it had been a while since I'd used Mod Podge and I actually had to redo it because I applied too much and it wasn't drying.  #fail.

I was a little hesitant about attaching the magnet to the photo so I cut out pieces of black construction paper and attached it to the photo with Mod Podge.  Then I even added another layer on the black construction paper just to make it stiff.

I used my clear adhesive that's similar to Liquid Nails to attach the magnet on the back.

Tippy was very anxious for them to dry because she wanted to see how they looked on the refrigerator.  But I told her we had to wait until the next morning just to make sure everything was set.

Wanna see how they turned out?  They're a little hard to see from the glare of the glass but here is Tippy and her Daddy Rocky.

This is Abbey, my sister's dog.  She's the only non-chihuahua in the family....and she hates every waking moment of it.

Then we have my parents' pets.....Scotty and Hitch.  You may or not know, but Hitch is the newest addition to our dog-lover family.  Doesn't he look so dapper in his Christmas bow-tie?

Aaaaaand then I came across another photo that I just HAD TO print.  Yep.  That's my dad.  Drinking a margarita.  #priceless

Overall, I think they turned out pretty cute.  The only think I wish I would've done was get one of those Modge Podge squeegees to push out all the gooped-up Modge Podge and give it a smoother look.  Do you have any pets that give presents?  Tippy would love some ideas for next year.  ;)
